Stopping on Winter Roads

Your vehicle tires are the only thing between you and the roadway so make sure your tires are in good condition. Worn or damaged tires can seriously affect the performance of your vehicle.

Check your air pressure on a regular basis as tire pressure decreases during colder temperatures. Remember that “all-season” tires may be adequate in some areas but they may not have the traction you want if you’re travelling through the snow belt region.

No matter how good your tires are, keeping a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you allows proper stopping distances to avoid collisions. It’s always going to take longer to stop if the road is covered with snow or ice.
